Fridge Door Shanty, originally uploaded by worldslargestthings.

I was just looking at some photos that Erika Nelson recently posted to her flickr site about a trip to a wedding in MN, with a bunch of art car folks, and realized that there is something afoot.

Art Shantys.

A new level of art cars, Minnesota style. It is a winter tradition to go ice fishing and building a little shanty to sit in to stay “warm” (as if you could ever be warm sitting on ice) After looking at Erika’s photos, I realize that this is a great new-to-me expression of creativity on ice.

And this one…keeping the cold out…
